RENT Interviews (the experience…)

by stella on June 21, 2009

Walking up to the Stage Entrance, past a horde of groupies, felt amazing. I couldn’t believe that I was actually interviewing cast members from the show RENT!

My family and I strode through security and met up with Gen – she is an insider at the Buell Theater (where the show was) and is the one who helped me set up the interviews. She’s wonderful and hopefully will help me get a few more interviews with other shows that travel to the Buell.

Painted on the walls were posters for each of the performances that had come to the theater. They had been signed by the cast and crew – I even caught a glimpse of Julie Andrews’ signature on one poster!

Within moments I met Lexi Lawson in her dressing room. Ever-smiling, she glowed with personality and was really fun to talk with. By the end of the interview I felt like we had been friends for years.

A blink of an eye and I was in Nicolette Hart’s dressing room. Nicolette had a lot of interesting things to say (so much we ran out of time at the end!). We laughed over her old memories and at the end I was so inspired when she told me she truly believed that I could make it into the acting/writing business.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to interview Lexi & Nicolette – they were both so genuine.

RENT Interviews!

by stella on June 12, 2009

How exciting is this: I’m interviewing 2 cast members from the play Rent in about an hour! I’m so psyched. These will be my first 2 interviews for the book 50 Interviews: Actors.

Lexi Lawson is one cast member I’ll be interviewing. She was on this season’s American Idol but left the show to take up the role of Mimi in the show. I’m also interviewing Nicolette Hart. She is playing Maureen, and she was Maureen in the original Broadway play.

I have to go to the interviews now so that’s all for today. Hopefully once we get their approval, I can post video clips or segments from the interviews on this blog.
